City Sightseeing Lisbon - Hop on Hop off

from £18 per person

Lisbon's history dates back to 300,000 years ago; however it emerged as a nation state in the early 12th century, and ranks as one of the world's oldest cities!

From our start point of Marques do Pombal Square, for each of our 2 routes, you can discover and explore at your own leisure the city's key sights, museums, gardens and attractions. Lisbon, a city of contrasts, offers so much to discover and surprise and still maintains the marks of its early history. It is heralded as one of the most beautiful capitals of Europe.

There are so many attractions in Lisbon such as Jerónimos Monastery, built by King D. Manuel I and designed in Manueline architectural style, and Torre de Belém, which are both classified by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.

Take a stroll through the many squares including the Praça do Município, Praça do Comércio and the Praça do Rossio. Pay a visit to the Museu (Museum) do Oriente, Museu do Azulejo or Museu de Arte Antiga. Wander through beautiful gardens like the Jardim da Astrela or the Jardim do Principe Real.

If you appreciate the animal kingdom, perhaps you would like to spend time at the Oceánario de Lisboa or the Jardim Zoológico.

Marvel at the city's cathedrals, mosques, the exhibits in the Calouste Gulbenkian and don't miss the renowned Palacio de Belem.

Sunset in Lisbon does not mean it's the end of the day. A typical evening might start in the cafés of Chiado, serving as meeting points before heading to a restaurant for dinner in a relaxing atmosphere in the Bairro Alto quarter, the epicentre of the city's bar scene. Venues range from the hip ("Bedroom"), to the quirky ("Pavilhão Chinês"), to the laid-back ("Clube da Esquina").

Most locations close between 2 and 4am, but night owls continue the night at the docks of Alcântara and the district of Santos, home to several fashionable bars and clubs. If clubbing isn't your scene, classical music is well represented at a variety of venues such as the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Culturgest.

The city's several beautiful old theatres, such as the Dona Maria II National Theatre, present contemporary works and classical plays.
