Fatima Nazare and Obidos

from £81 per person

This tour is full of history and religion as you will discover what real Portugese life is like as we travel north past vineyards, cork trees, pine and eucalyptus forests to discover medieval cities and Christian sites of bygone times, as well as a world famous pilgrimage site. (Includes lunch).

Our first stop, Obidos, is a medieval city surrounded by ancient castle walls with picturesque narrow streets, whitewashed houses and iron balconies. From one the castle tower you can enjoy a view of the surrounding countryside or visit the many handicraft shops and wine taverns with the local liqueur “Ginginha”.

On to Nazaré, one of the most picturesque and richest Portuguese fishing villages, you will have some free time to look around. Here you will find fishermen and their families at work still dressed in traditional clothing and handicraft shops galore.

We continue to the 14th century monastery of Batalha, masterpiece of gothic architecture with Manueline Art additions from the two centuries following. King John I of England ordered the construction of this Monastery in homage to his victory and to be his Royal Pantheon. Here we will visit the highest church in Portugal.

Fatima is the centre of Christian faith and world pilgrimage. See the chapel where Our Lady appeared to the shepherds in 1917, the Basilica and its vast square where you will see a magnificent sight of faith and devotion with people crawling towards the heart of the shrine. Here we will have lunch and you will have free time to visit the shrine or attend mass. Afterwards we visit Aljustrel (where the shepherds lived) and the houses Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta.

Please note that the below prices are valid for pick-ups from Lisbon city centre only, for departures from the Cascais coast there will be a supplement of £7 per personto be paid prior to departure.
