Hours of operation

Approximately 3.5 hours.

Departs at Gray Line Lighthouse Ticket Office, 400 Toulouse Street, New Orleans, LA 70130 (at the Mississippi River in the French Quarter).

The tour begins in the original city, the French Quarter, and travels to the Ninth Ward, one of many New Orleans neighborhoods devastated by the flooding caused by multiple levee breaks. Pass the house of the legendary rock and roll pianist Antoine Dominique “Fats” Domino, and learn of his personal journey through the storm.

After visiting a unique above-ground cemetery, we’ll make a brief stop in City Park, where you may visit either the Morning Call Café or the Besthoff Sculpture Garden. Under the shady oak trees of Esplanade Avenue, retrace the route taken by carriages of yesteryear to escape the summer heat.

Then it’s on to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain to visit the Lighthouse destroyed by Katrina but reconstructed and reopened in May 2013. Your guided tour of this museum offers a bird’s eye view of the area, including the levees along the lakefront and, in the distance, the longest bridge over water in the world, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

New Orleans is a city of neighborhoods and we will travel through many on this tour - Faubourg Marigny, Faubourg St. John, Lakeview, Carrollton, and Uptown. In the Carrollton section view Xavier University, founded by St. Katharine Drexel and presently the only historically black, Catholic University in the Western Hemisphere. Follow the path of the St. Charles Avenue streetcars past Tulane and Loyola Universities, across from Audubon Park, and the exclusive Garden District.
