City Sightseeing Edinburgh - Hop on Hop off

from £15 per person

Capital of Scotland since the 15th century, Edinburgh stands on seven hills creating the dramatic skyline of this lively cosmopolitan city.

What better way to see this fantastic city than from the top of a City Sightseeing tour bus. Compare Edinburgh's Old Town, where families lived in cramped conditions and household rubbish was thrown out of windows, to the elegant Georgian New Town with its three main streets and a square at either end. Hear about the hangings that took place in the Grassmarket and the attempts to capture Edinburgh Castle, marvel at the impenetrable Castle Rock and see the Royal Mile which joins Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyrood House.

Brave travellers may wish to visit the Edinburgh Dungeon near Stop 1 where the Scott Monument can also be found. For more of Edinburgh’s history, peruse the Museum of Childhood and the National Museum of Scotland. Hop off at Lawnmarket for Edinburgh’s renowned Castle where you can let the Castle’s story unfold in a guided tour – full of tales of intrigue. For young and old adventurers alike, travel through time at Our Dynamic Earth where you can also take advantage of the digital planetarium screening. Learn about Grayfrairs Bobby, the Burns Monument and the Old Observatory as you tour the city from the top deck of an open top bus.

Sit back and let City Sightseeing highlight all of the City’s must-see places and attractions. With numerous stops located conveniently around the city, you can hop on and off at your leisure. Stroll through Charlotte Square which is part of the New Town and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will also find The Georgian House which is in the care of the National Trust for Scotland. Arthur's Seat is one of the seven hills of Edinburgh which looms over the city and offers many different walks. Whether you wish to marvel at the exquisite Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official residence in Scotland of Her Majesty The Queen, or saunter through the Saturday Farmers Market, you will never be short of things to do.

In the evening there are plenty of places to wind down. The White Hart inn is one of several pubs which line the north side of Grassmarket. It is one of the city’s oldest pubs and its cellar dates back to 1516. Treat yourself to an evening of live music, dancing, theatre or comedy, all of which are in abundance during the annual Edinburgh Festival.
